Pattaya Travel Guide

Located two hours away from Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, Pattaya is the perfect mix of tranquillity and activity. The city has more to offer than just its infamous red life district – with stunning beaches, lots of places to see, things to do and places to eat, Pattaya caters to a wide range of travellers.

We’ve created a mini travel guide to help you navigate your travel to Pattaya. Read about transportation, tips, activities and locations to visit. Make Pattaya your next holiday destination!

1. Getting There:

  • By coach: From Bangkok, you can take a coach to Pattaya. Coaches will primarily depart from Ekamai Eastern Bus Terminal, from Mo Chit Northern Bus Terminal, or from Suvarnabhumi Airport.
  • Taxis and rideshare drivers are often willing to drive you to Pattaya from Bangkok, so it may be worth exploring this option as well.
  • Your hotel in Bangkok or Pattaya may be able to arrange transportation to Pattaya.
  • If you prefer to drive and hold a driving permit that allows you to drive in Thailand, you can also consider renting a car to drive to Pattaya. From our experience, this is not normally done unless you will also hold onto the car to drive further along the Gulf of Thailand coastline or back to Bangkok.

2. What to Do:

  • Beaches – It is important that you look over the customs and regulations of the beaches you will be visiting through local authorities or signage.
    • Wong Amat Beach: Fam Bam
      • This beach is in close proximity to several luxury sea-facing hotels and restaurants, thus making it the perfect place for families with kids. There are also plenty of budget hotel options close to the beach, some of which have pools and sunbeds – so if you’re on a budget, you’ll still find accommodation options near Wong Amat beach.
    • Pattaya Beach: Adventure Time!
      • With a crescent-shaped coast extending nearly 3km in length, this beach is popular with adventure seekers keen on parasailing and jet-skiing.
    • Jomtien Beach: Just Chillin’
      • Jomtien is for travellers looking to chill and rejuvenate – with numerous shops, restaurants and cafes to choose from right on the beachfront lane. Notwithstanding, you still have access to water sport activities like you do on Pattaya Beach!
  • Attractions:
    • Alcazar and Tiffany’s Shows
      • Experience either (or both) of the long-standing cabaret shows in Pattaya. Expect fantastic performances, amazing costumes and great lighting.
    • Nong Nooch Tropical Garden
      • Recognised as one of the top ten most beautiful gardens in the world, Nong Nooch Tropical Garden is a family dream that blossomed under the concept as “a garden for all people of this world”. Witness how an idea for the couple’s land initially sprouted as a fruit plantation but grew to become a gorgeous botanical garden.
    • Pattaya Floating Market
      • Taking the phrase, ‘whatever floats your boat’ to a whole new meaning. This market holds over 115 stalls and vendors along a 100,000 square metre area! You can find food, drinks, handmade crafts, clothing and so forth.

3. Practical Tips:

  • Culture: Thailand is rich in cultural heritage and the customs and traditions here may differ from those in other countries. It is essential as a visitor – no matter where it is you’re visiting – that you take the time to understand and respect the people and the land that you are entering.
  • Getting Around: In Pattaya, the ‘Baht Bus’ or songthaew is a popular way of getting around. You can also use metered taxis, motorbike taxis, or rideshare apps. Uber is not available in Thailand – a popular substitute is ‘Grab’. This is a rideshare app you can use to get around or have good delivered. Other popular applications include Bolt, inDrive, and the AirAsia superapp. Note that coverage for certain apps may be limited to regions such as Bangkok.

4. After Your Visit to Pattaya, Consider Going Further Down To:
